Senior Vice President, Northeast Region Property Placement Leader – Energy & Engineered Risk, Willis

Mike leads a team negotiating property placements for Energy & Engineered Risks in Willis’ New York metro office, specializing in large national and multinational engineered risks.  He possesses extensive experience in both property placement and property risk control.  For the last 16 years, Mike has been placing property insurance for large clients, focusing mainly on energy, chemical, petrochemical and engineered risks. In addition to his marketing skills, he provides informed coverage analyses to assist clients in renewal negotiations and claim settlements.

Mike also serves as Willis’ US Power Generation leader, advocating for Willis’ clients and helping to match appropriate Willis resources across various lines of business with Willis clients and prospects.   Mike joined Willis in 2009 as the Assistant Practice Leader in New York for power generation risks.

For more than ten years prior to his current brokerage work, Mike performed loss control engineering services for IRI and Allianz Risk Consultants, specializing in chemical and petrochemical risks. He also worked for independent engineering consulting firms Primatech and Energy & Chemical Risk Consultants, assisting clients develop and implement their process safety management (PSM) programs.  Overall, Mike has conducted loss modeling and hazard analyses, business continuity studies, and performed loss prevention surveys to assess the risk protection features of industrial sites.

Mike’s professional experience helped his clients in coordinating third party and insurer engineering services. He has served as liaison between client and property insurance carriers in assisting clients to evaluate and prioritize insurance carrier engineering recommendations, and work to find alternative cost-effective solutions.

Mike has a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Villanova University and an MBA in Finance from Rutgers University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and has published articles on analyzing large loss events and the effects of downsizing on safety and related topics in a number of publications, including Chemical Engineering and Process Operations Progress. He has also made presentations at insurance and engineering conferences and taught courses on property insurance and the basics of natural hazards modeling. Mike was among the list of Power Brokers named by Risk & Insurance magazine in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
